God… why won’t these animation studios ever get actual English speaking VAs for English speaking roles?! It can’t be this hard! I admit this was ever so slightly better than some of the horrid “Engrish” I have heard in subbed anime but it still completely wrecks my immersion to hear this halting “I wheel niao speak in Eenglesh. I am foriner to Japan.” coming out of characters that are supposed to be either half-English or even full foreigners being introduced. I could even forgive that if their Japanese pronunciation was bad too as that could just be poor communication skills.… Read more »
Put it this way, imagine you’re an English speaker and only learned Spanish in a class and had to pronounce things. At least in this context the “meh” English is okay.
(I understand this argument for English speaking characters but all of the students are from Japanese homes lol.)
