At this point.. the better question is.. why is there a whole episode devoted to the backstory trope and get on with it.. ep2 already seems like it will be slow just given the last 5 seconds of this episode
For me, it is the abuse he receives by his master the whole time. Unlike someone like Master Roshi, she tries to show him that their always someone better (but in the worst ways possible.) Nothing makes someone feel like shit, quite like the moment you do the thing you were asked to do. You immediately get shown that nothing you did was good enough. Weird that they started with completely distorted version of the backstory. But anyway, plot to follow is more wholesome than you would expect with such over-used premises.
It has actually been a while since I have seen a new magical girl anime. Or an idol. It’s more common then all of these combined.
